You've fought your body and tried to force-fit it to beauty standards you wouldn't dream of imposing on your best friend or a daughter. The diets, workouts, and self judgment, they don't pay rent for the massive space they occupy in your mind.
If someone needs a favor, you're the go-to person. The idea of saying 'no' makes your inner moral compass go into a tailspin.
You know you "should" prioritize your health and you’ve tried your best to strong-arm your way into better habits. When they don't stick, you tell yourself that you’ve failed yet again.
Fear not. There’s a more effective and less painful approach to self care!
In one-on-one self care coaching, you’ll learn that self care isn’t a matter of checking off the “health” boxes on your To Do list or never-ending guilt for prioritizing your needs.
Self care is tending to yourself in such a steady way that life feels fulfilling, happy, and healthy. It starts with the simple (not easy) belief that you are worthy of compassion and wellbeing.
Changing decades-old mindsets and taking action takes effort. But it’s empowering, life-changing work, and you don’t have to do it alone. I’m here to be your guide and confidante.
What we’ll do:
In our first session, we’ll get a clear, holistic picture of where you are now and how you want your life to be, with the help of a pre-coaching welcome packet.
We’ll meet weekly over the phone, video chat, or in-person in Chapel Hill.
You’ll learn simple meditation and breathing practices, plus a little yoga (if you want it).
Between sessions, you’ll dig into inspiring, challenging homework.
60-minute sessions, with some between-session email and text support.
Access to extra resources, like audio meditations, planning tools, and writing prompts.
Momentum-building 6-session initial commitment, $450.
I'm here to help you stay energized, curious, and self-compassionate, as you build the balanced life that used to feel so out of reach. In our work together, you’ll build an emotional foundation of self loyalty, and take steady, consistent action.
"Self care is the best gift you will ever give to yourself, because Emily will help you understand that you are beautiful, amazing, and capable of doing so much more than you ever thought, both emotionally and physically!"
Self care is the best gift you will ever give to yourself, because Emily will help you understand that you are beautiful, amazing, and capable of doing so much more than you ever thought, both emotionally and physically!
The biggest challenges I faced before contacting Emily for self care coaching were body image, self confidence, and self advocacy. Through working together, I have become empowered! I see my own self worth and recognize that others also appreciate me simply for who I am. I am able to better see the contributions I make to the world, and feel more emotionally at peace. I also feel more comfortable telling others what I need to make me happy.
What I like best about our work together, is that Emily never tells me how to feel or what I should be doing. She is understanding, and has a unique ability to help me reflect and come to positive conclusions and solutions on my own.
The most important thing I would tell a friend about working with Emily is, she will help you get to really know and love yourself. Self care is the best gift you will ever give to yourself, because Emily will help you understand that you are beautiful, amazing, and capable of doing so much more than you ever thought, both emotionally and physically!

Self Care Coaching
Within a short period of time working with Emily, I was able to shift my mindset from trying to force myself to "improve my self-care" and feeling like a failure to offering myself options for change, options for feeling better. That might sound simple but, for me, it was life-changing.
When I first starting working with Emily, I was really struggling with my self-care...not only doing it but my approach to trying to do it. I was caught in a painful cycle of setting a self-care goal for myself, not doing it, and then feeling down and like a failure.
So glad to have found a "Self-care Coach", I reached out to Emily with the goal of "improving my self-care". I soon found out that was not where I needed to focus. Emily's approach of working more deeply and directly on my mindset was what I needed. She also offered a very warm, grounded, realistic quality. She also understood how to work compassionately and respectfully with the various (and often conflicting) parts of me.
Within a short period of time working with Emily, I was able to shift my mindset from trying to force myself to "improve my self-care" and feeling like a failure to offering myself options for change, options for feeling better. That might sound simple but, for me, it's huge. It was life-changing. I've worked with many therapists over the years and I work as one myself, and this essential change of mindset was not ever as clear. Applying the options mindset, I was able to feel better right away. I feel lighter and more at ease. The whole trip of being a "failure" because I didn't do a "good" self-care behaviour disappeared. And, as a bonus, because I gave myself options and took the pressure off, I was able to do more of the things I wanted to do to take better care of myself.
I highly recommend working with Emily. She's kind and supportive and she's also wise, grounded, and sharp.

Self Care Coaching
I am more confident in making decisions for myself. I feel more at peace with where I'm at right now. I've learned to be more present and to enjoy the moments.
"The biggest challenge I faced before contacting Emily for self care coaching and yoga lessons was a general sense that something was lacking in my life. I have been a stay at home mom for a good deal longer than I originally anticipated. I had this feeling that I had to figure out "my purpose in life", that I was lost or wasting my time here.
After working together, I am a lot kinder to myself and better at knowing what I need in any given moment. I am more confident in making decisions for myself. I feel more at peace with where I'm at right now. I've learned to be more present and to enjoy the moments. I'm learning to see the journey as the purpose rather than some "end". And I'm enjoying staying at home for now. I still don't know the next "step". I guess I no longer see it as a next "step" but rather what is calling to me now or what adventure do I want to try out next?
What I liked best about our work together was it was fun! I guess I expected it to feel more like work. Emily models intention, humor, self care, and self compassion so well. She asks the right questions and then provides completely non-judgmental encouragement to get you where you want to be. And the yoga was such a surprise! I'd been taking classes with Emily and wasn't sure if I should do just the coaching on the side. I'm so glad I went with the coaching and yoga mix. The way Emily embraces and teaches yoga, you learn so much more than the asanas. It's putting what you talk about in the coaching into practice.
The most important thing I would tell a friend about working with Emily is just try it. I waited awhile before I signed up with Emily. I had a general sense of dissatisfaction, but wasn't sure what area of my life to ask Emily to work on. You don't need to know! Part of Emily's magic is asking the right questions and recommending the right work so you can figure out what you most need. Some of the most powerful things we worked on together were things I never even thought of before starting with Emily."

Self Care Coaching + Yoga Lessons
Emily was there with me every step of the way. She supported me in all the self-care I needed to survive such a challenging time.
"While I had known Emily for years in her capacity as a yoga teacher and public health practitioner, my first person experience with her health coaching started earlier this year. I was really struggling in my PhD program- I was navigating a treacherous advisor relationship, felt overwhelmed by anxiety, and couldn't seem to find a balance between productivity and wellness. I reached out to Emily, because I knew I needed help. I wasn't sleeping peacefully, had trouble focusing on my coursework, and honestly wanted to drop out of my program.
At first, Emily and I just talked about how I was feeling. She was able to throw me a few life preservers, which got me through the worst of a long-standing depression. Together, I set goals for daily meditation and yoga- even if only for a few minutes. As the days passed, I noticed my focus re-centering. I didn't feel as overwhelmed by the excessive demands of my advisor, and I started to feel capable of tackling my candidacy exams that were on the horizon.
Soon, Emily and I were working together to identify things that brought me *joy* in my work. I felt re-connected with why I was getting my PhD in public health, and I realized that I was both professionally capable and deserving of happiness.
It took a lot of work and encouragement, but after a few months of health coaching from Emily I decided to end the relationship with my advisor. It was both one of the hardest and bravest things I think I have ever done. While getting through that "break-up" was incredibly painful, Emily was there with me every step of the way. She supported me in all the self-care I needed to survive such a challenging time.
Today, I am taking my candidacy exams, and I feel so confident that I took the time to write this testimonial. I am not exaggerating when I say I wouldn't still be in this PhD program without Emily. She'd be quick to tell I did this all myself, because that's her way. But the truth is I didn't have the tools or the motivation to take care of myself when I was drowning. Together, though, we found relative peace on the stormy seas of academia. I am happy, and I am grateful."
Self Care Coaching
After my six-weeks of self care coaching with Emily, I feel dramatically better.
"Over the past few years, I've tried so many ways to manage stress, including yoga, exercise, diet changes, changing jobs, and yet it felt like nothing I tried was actually helping me to create change. Instead of moving forward, I was scattered and aimless. I would get an idea from a website or a friend, and then try it for a few days or weeks. While my aim was to build a solid foundation for my own happiness, I was just making sandcastles by an angry ocean.
Working with Emily changed everything for me. She helped me take the energy I was throwing into too many ideas, and hone in on what was really troubling me. I had a lot of different stressors at the time, but focusing on the main issue (my career), allowed me to be specific about what I wanted to accomplish and what steps I needed to take.
I’ve always wanted to be happy and successful, but it’s never been easy. After my six-weeks of self care coaching with Emily, I feel dramatically better. Each week she helped me plan the changes I would make, then followed up during our next check-in meeting. When I felt overwhelmed by the big picture, Emily helped me to make the process accessible. She was also a great resource for discussing issues related to stress management, such as ways to incorporate breathing techniques and yoga into my day-to-day life. Of course Emily is an amazing and supportive listener. I cannot recommend her highly enough!"

Wellness is a journey that I am finally excited about.
"Emily has the unique ability to listen and hear. She was able to the hear the underlying truths that I myself wasn't able to recognize initially. Determining those truths was the first step on my journey towards wellness; a journey that I am finally excited about. The value of a compassionate perspective cannot be overstated. Emily not only embodies that perspective, but she is able to teach it."
