You don't have to be pregnant to accept your belly

A friend and I were talking recently about something frustrating we've noticed in body image conversations. The more we make strides in body positivity (and don't get me wrong, we have a looooooong way to go), it seems it’s a bit easier to accept the softness of women's bellies, maybe even celebrate the loveliness of them, as long as they've had babies. Then we can appreciate the bellies for what they've accomplished and created. Admittedly, that's pretty incredible! Here's the thing, though - pregnancy doesn't define your belly's value. Your stomach is already accomplishing a hell of a lot right now; it's holding, fueling, and cushioning organs that are absolutely essential to your survival. So your reproductive status, history, gender, age, size, shape, all of it, are simultaneously great and irrelevant to your belly's value. All bellies are worthy of care and acceptance. You're allowed to have a soft or any other kind of belly, regardless of whether you've been pregnant recently or ever. There are zero conditions. I shot a quick video recently as a little pep talk in case dieting messages are getting you down and your inner critic is giving your belly a hard time!
